Descendants of Anubis

Our travels have taken is to the cradle of ancient civilization: Egypt. We spent almost two weeks traveling in the African country. We had a brief pause in Amsterdam, where we caught a few glimpses of pups in the art of the Royal Palace.

Then we were off to Cairo. We spotted dogs right away, as they were everywhere. Sad, sad sad. Most appeared to be strays, scrawny and dirty. Many gathered at tourist hotspots. I’m sure many Western visitors felt sorry and threw out some scraps for the hungry hounds. Many of the dogs had company on the streets. There were cats all over as well.

An interesting sight in Edfu as we visited the temple at sunrise. One dog had perched itself at the top of an ancient wall and called out to the others, barking his (or her) warning.

In Alexandria, we spotted a tagged dog. Apparently, the city has recently started a trap and release program in an effort to curb the stray population.
