Sure, it may be a “Hallmark holiday,” but if you’re going to make up a holiday, what better reason to celebrate than our rescued pups?
Founded by Tails That Teach, Inc., this special day is promoted annually to raise awareness of the many, many dogs waiting for forever homes in shelters and rescues.

The day was inspired by Cooper who was rescued in 2009. According to the National Rescue Dog Day website, the brindle and white mixed breed is now the main character in the Tails That Teach book series which teaches children how to be kind and gentle to their pets so they grown up to be compassionate, responsible pet owners.
To honor the day and those special rescue dogs that have passed through our lives, here are a few photos of those special pups from our home. Some were with us a long time, for some their time with us was short. All were loved.
