Keeping a Legacy Alive

A K9 can be a force multiplier for a police department, adding numerous facets to law enforcement options when they’re patrolling the streets. But a big problem is the cost associated with a k9 program, not just the cost of the dog, which is substantial, but the ongoing training and veterinary costs.

In this episode of The American Canine Podcast, I speak with Nancy Haverkamp and Heather Lane from the Matt Haverkamp Foundation.Matt was a K9 officer in a small community outside Cincinnati. He was killed in an off-duty car accident in 2005 and to keep his memory alive, his family and friends started the Foundation which provides dogs, gear, and training for K9 units. You can learn more about its mission and history at this link.
