A Long Hard Fight

on

As I write this, there are stories all over the news about the end to our war in Afghanistan. It has been a twenty year battle, an incredible thought, as we see the most recent American casualties were mere babies when the first troops arrived in that country two decades ago. That long, protracted was has left countless veterans with scars, both physical and psychological. This makes another hard fought victory all the more poignant.

Last week, President Joe Biden signed the Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers (PAWS) for Veterans Therapy Act into law. Under the law, the VA will partner with nonprofit organizations for a pilot program in which veterans will be able to train aspiring service dogs.

More than ten years ago, then-newly elected Senator, Al Franken was one of the first to champion this cause. I have linked to his blog so you can get his thoughts on this incredible effort that has finally seen victory.
